Treating Avascular Necrosis of the Hip in Istanbul
Death of bone tissue in the femoral head due to disrupted blood supply. Early intervention preserves the hip joint — late-stage disease requires replacement.

What is Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the Hip?
AVN (osteonecrosis) occurs when the blood supply to the femoral head is interrupted, causing bone cells to die. It progresses through stages from early (reversible) to late (femoral head collapse with arthritis).
Risk factors include corticosteroid use, alcohol, trauma, sickle cell disease, and dysbaric injuries. MRI detects AVN earlier than X-ray, allowing joint-preserving surgery in suitable patients.
- Affects 10,000–20,000 new patients per year in Europe
- Bilateral in 40–80% of cases
- Corticosteroid use and alcohol are the most common causes
- Early diagnosis (Ficat stage I–II) enables joint-preserving procedures

Joint Preservation to Replacement
Core Decompression
Drilling channels into the necrotic area reduces intraosseous pressure and stimulates revascularisation — effective in stage I–II.
Bone Grafting (Vascularised / Non-vascularised)
Structural support and biological stimulus to revascularise the dead segment. Fibular strut grafts are commonly used.
Hip Resurfacing
Conservative hip replacement that preserves femoral bone stock — ideal for young active patients with preserved femoral head shape (stage II).
Total Hip Replacement
Stryker robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty for collapsed femoral heads (stage III–IV) — precise implant positioning for optimal longevity.
World-class orthopaedic care at a fraction of Western costs
50–70% Cost Saving
JCI-accredited surgery at 30–50% of UK / US prices — without compromising implant quality or surgical standards.
