Cerebral palsy — orthopedic perspective
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive brain injury occurring before, during, or shortly after birth that causes permanent motor impairment. While the brain lesion itself does not worsen, its musculoskeletal consequences — spasticity, contractures, hip dislocation, scoliosis, and gait disturbances — worsen progressively without intervention.
Orthopedic and neurosurgical treatment aims to reduce spasticity, correct fixed deformities, improve walking ability, and maximize independence.
